Japanese green tea was founded by Eisan Myoan, the founder of Buddhism. Upon returning from China, he planted the tea seeds at his temple. After it was harvested, he realized that the tea was more exquisite than all the other tea grown in Japan.
By experimenting with different techniques to brew the tea, he found that grinding the tea leaves into a powdery substance, and mix it with hot water brought out the flavor of the tea.
